We departed Sawai Madhopur at 8:00 am for the 7-8 hour ride to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal! The drive wasn’t bad (initially) since we had “decent” roads and a few stops – bathroom, lunch, stepwell – along the way. But it was also the hottest day so far, and we felt it, even though the humidity was lower.

Chand Baori (Stepwell) is impressive! Over 100 feet deep with 3,500 steps. And the strips were steep, and narrow, and without rails – an OSHA-type agency seems to be missing in India.

Food in India
We’ve had a lot of repeat or similar dishes on our trip. If the food was wow great, then I wouldn’t mind. However, I have decided that Indian food is generally a bit blah and repetetive. Even though some of the sauces are tasty, overall I’m not a fan. And I always thought the food would be spicy, but not so for me. Even adding some “hot” sauces did not up the flavor or zing for me. Of course, we only traveled in a small portion of India and I’m sure the food varies substantially by region. Maybe other choices eoukd be more to my taste. But…I sure would like some beef or pork dishes, although you won’t find those on the menu in most of India.
We Made it to Agra
After a long traffic delay after lunch on our route, we finally arrived at our Agra hotel around 6:00 pm. It was too late to visit the famous Red Fort, so we’ll tack that on for tomorrow. Most of us headed out for a quick dinner and returned for an early bedtime. We have to be up at 4:00 am for our Taj Mahal visit!

A short & witty ending…
Another day, another memory filed under ‘worth it.’
