Day 8 – On to Ranthambore National Park

After a late breakfast, we boarded our bus for the national park area.  The roads were much better than previously and we made good time on the 3 hour ride.  Part of the route was on a very nice 8-lane divided toll road, the Delhi – Mumbai Highway.

Sure, wherever we want, no problem. Remember, we are sacred.
Group bath time in a yard along the highway!
Basmati rice fields
Lots of tins roofs held down by anything handy

We arrived safely in Sawai Madhopur, our stopover city for two nights as we visit the national park and other sites, and see the sights!

Our arrival welcome at the hotel

We all enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch at the hotel.

Chicken, potatoes, paneer (cheese), rice, etc.
And Bhajiya, a very delicious type of potato snack, vaguely similar to potato sticks. Really good!

Then we all scattered for the afternoon.  Some went shopping, some to the pool, a couple went to the onsite spa for massages, and a few just relaxed in their comfortable rooms. This hotel is very nice!

And the remaining eight hearty souls decided to take an optional excursion to an old fort nearby. With steps. Uphill steps. A lot of uphill steps. In the heat of the afternoon. Yes, I went.  My much smarter sister opted for a massage instead.

The visit was actually very enjoyable and not as taxing as we were led to believe. So here are some photos of the old fort site.

We also have a souvenir shop and tailor on the hotel grounds, so…

Modeling my tailor-made shirt that I ordered about four hours before this photo!

A short & witty ending…

Travel Hack: If you look lost enough, someone usually offers you a local snack. Results may vary.
